How Often Should I Clean My New Carpet?

As Albuquerque’s top carpet cleaning service, we’re often asked by new homeowners or those who are purchasing new carpet how often they should have their carpets cleaned. To get the longest life out of your carpet you’ll want to have it cleaned before it starts to show signs of being “dirty.” Soil and other particles act like sandpaper, grinding away at carpet fibers and causing early signs of wear. Professional cleanings remove soil you can’t see and significantly reduce long term, irreparable damage. We like to think of professional carpet cleaning like regular dentist’s visits, preventative maintenance and proper care makes everything look better and last longer.

Major carpet manufacturers like Shaw and Mohawk require that a homeowner be able to show proof of a minimum of 1 professional cleaning every 18 months using hot water extraction, better know as “steam cleaning” so as not to void their warranty. Shaw recommends that professional cleaning be performed by a firm certified by the Institution of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and specifically states that cleaning by other professional services may result in damage that will not be covered by your warranty.

Steamatic is one of the few IICRC certified carpet cleaners in Albuquerque, and is a pioneer in the hot water extraction cleaning method. Make sure your new carpet warranty remains intact, schedule regular cleanings on our annual or 18-month plan to make sure you protect your investment and keep your new carpet looking like new.
